Σπίτια εικονογραφημένο παιδικό βιβλιο 2025

The illustration of the book Houses (Home) is based on a mixed-media approach, combining markers, collage, and extensive hand-crafted digital work. The concept aims to create a second, parallel narrative that begins on the cover and unfolds organically throughout the book.

This visual narrative starts with the human body as the first, implicit home and continues with birds that bring the day, time, and movement. The notions of time, scale — from the microscopic to the infinite — and constant transition run through the entire book. On the ground, ants introduce a house in a vivid red–fuchsia color, which functions as a recurring visual symbol of what a home is and what it may metaphorically signify across all illustrations.

In each subsequent spread, the idea of home is transformed and redefined: in the underwater scene, it is both the landscape itself and the hull of a ship; in the spread depicting refugees — where the absence of home is central — a woman within the crowd symbolically carries a small house like a bag, suggesting memory, hope, and the search for a place of safety; in the scene with the cat, the home is rendered axonometrically, revealing both its interior and exterior, while the colors on the cat’s fur evoke hygge — coziness as a form of dwelling; in the child’s treehouse, home becomes play and imagination; on Earth, across all seasons, it transforms into a kite, while also standing for our planet as a shared home for everyone.

The narrative ultimately opens into space and the infinite, where home is conceived as an embrace, as an inner dialogue, and as a collective place. Home expands into infinity, like love and human romantic connection. “Let’s look at the stars together — one of them will show us the way.” The bird from the opening flock returns to close the day, suggesting cyclical time and an ongoing journey.

The book ends with an open address to the reader, offering space and freedom to reflect, to feel, and to define their own inner sense of home — a home where everyone belongs.

The typography is minimal, with selected words emphasized in bold as carriers of meaning — body, shelter, love, coziness, imagination, family, warmth, hope — functioning as visual and conceptual anchors that redefine what “home” can mean and who it can include.
